Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Synopsis:  Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn’t understand that once love -- the deliria -- blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the government demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.

But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love.

My 2 cents:  Oh. My. God.  This book was amazing!  I read just read the last 200 pages in a rush.  And I'm about in tears on the ending!  Don't want to give away anything, but the ending is a tear-jerker!

First of all, the world Oliver created was just beyond strange.  People's emotions in general are shut down when they are 18.  People are not supposed to think "outside the box" or really, feel, anything once they have been "cured."  Of course it was easy to see what was so wrong with this society, even before the really bad things started happening!

I loved Lena.  And Alex, and Hana.  Hated Carol and Rachel.  Lena was a great main character because you really saw the inner struggle she had with accepting that love was a bad thing.  She starts out pretty convinced that the cure is the way, and to toe the line, so to speak.  But she always has a little doubt that increases as different things start happening to her and her loved ones.  And then she falls in love!  No reasoning with her after that...of course!

Loved this book, have to go get Pandemonium tomorrow!  5 stars!
